U.K. head of European renewables developer exits

Matt Black, managing director for the U.K. at Aviva-backed European renewables developer Innovo Renewables, has stepped down from the company.

Black exited the role earlier this month, PeakLoad has learned.

He joined the company to oversee Innovo’s expansion in the U.K. in 2021, around the same time it was founded by Milan-based Rodolfo Bigolin.

Black serves as chair of U.K. solar trade association Solar Energy U.K., and also has his own advisory business dubbed Black Energy Consulting, which has been active since 2011.

In the past he has served as investment director at Armstrong Capital Management, as well as senior investment manager at Foresight Group in London.

Innovo has originated several gigawatts of development phase solar, battery storage and onshore wind across Italy, the U.K. and Spain since its launch nearly five years ago.

Last month, the company announced it had secured €100 million of debt and preferred equity from the Nextalia Credit Solutions Fund.

The developer is backed by Aviva Investors, which initially acquired a 30% stake in 2023.

It increased its shareholding to 45% last year.

Innovo Renewables, Black and Bigolin did not respond to press enquiries.
